80-BED HOSPITAL, IMOTA

A new era in Healthcare for Imota

Access to quality healthcare has long been a pressing need for residents of Imota and its neighbouring communities. For decades, many people had to travel long distances to hospitals in Agbowa, Ijede or Ikorodu for basic and emergency medical care - a situation that placed unnecessary burdens on patients and families and, at times, cost lives.

Recognising this critical gap, Rep. Babajimi A. Benson facilitated the construction and equipping of an 80-bed hospital in Imota through the Office of the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The facility was completed and officially commissioned with modern medical infrastructure to serve mothers, children and the broader community.

This milestone project transformed a long-standing community aspiration - one that dated back to the 1970s when the land was first donated for a hospital - into reality. The hospital was later elevated to Imota General Hospital, reflecting its expanded role as a full-fledged public health facility.

Equipped with wards, theatres, diagnostic services, and specialised equipment, the hospital has significantly broadened access to quality healthcare close to home. It has reduced the need for arduous travel for medical attention, improved maternal and child health services, and brought vital emergency and general treatments within reach of thousands of residents across Imota and neighbouring areas.

In doing so, Rep. Benson’s intervention has not only delivered infrastructure but also restored dignity, hope, and confidence in public healthcare for families who once struggled to find timely and effective care.
